How the Gas Pulse Sender Works

With Topupmeters' dual-fuel prepayment system, you can conveniently charge tenants for both gas and electricity usage. The system operates using an ATEX-approved Gas Pulse Sender, which collects data from the gas meter and transmits it to a nearby Topup electric meter. The Pulse Sender counts the pulses from the gas meter. It then updates the meter every 15 minutes with the amount of gas used during that period and the appropriate charge is made to reduce the balance.

Unified Billing and Disconnection Failsafes

A major advantage of this system is that tenants only need to top up a single wallet for both utilities, with charges for gas and electricity deducted from the same balance. The meter applies a tariff to determine the exact amount to deduct based on gas usage.

If the Topup meter balance is depleted, the electricity supply will be cut off. The gas supply remains active. However, because most gas appliances require electricity to operate, further consumption is usually prevented. Any continued gas usage will accrue a debt, which will be automatically deducted from the next top-up. Because of this setup, a Topup electric meter is required to store gas data and control the electric supply; you cannot charge for gas on its own.

Landlord and Tenant Visibility

Both parties benefit from transparent monitoring. Gas meter readings are displayed in the gas column on the Gateway portal for landlords. Furthermore, tenants can log in to their account on the Payments site to monitor their historical gas usage and top up their balance. This allows tenants to stay informed and manage their consumption effectively.
