Upgrading your property with Topupmeters prepayment sub-meters is a straightforward process. The installation relies on standard electrical practices.

Choosing Your Installer

Topupmeters does not have an in-house team of installers. Our meters can be fitted by any certified NICEIC electrician. This allows you to use your preferred local contractor and schedule the work at your convenience.

Briefing Your Electrician

When booking your electrician, explain that you need prepayment sub-meters installed. Specify that the meters must be fitted inside each individual residence so tenants have direct access to them.

Most electricians are highly familiar with sub-meter installations. If you are simply replacing existing sub-meters, the job is even faster, as the electrician will connect directly to the existing meter tails.

Technical Specifications

You can provide your contractor with these details:

  • Rating: 230V, 100A rated.
  • Wiring: Each meter features a terminal cover with a clear electrical installation diagram showing exactly where the live and neutral wires go.

Powering Up and Testing

Once the meter is wired, the electrician will need to verify the supply. Since a new prepay meter has a zero balance, power won't flow automatically.

To bypass this and run final tests, simply press the 'B' button three times. This activates the emergency credit, turning the power on immediately so your electrician can complete their safety checks before leaving the site.
